Orchestra Tools worked with more than 100 musicians resulting in these 4 areas in Kontakt plus the MultiesĪll patches use the Orchestra Tools CAPSULE (Control And Performance Symphonic Utility Engine) UI in Kontakt. The same mics and mic position have been used so you can blend Ark 3 with the other two Arks easily in your mix. Metropolis Ark 3 are completely new recordings made for this library. The multis are carefully designed and sound great out of the boxĪll Metropolis Ark libraries (Ark 1, Ark 2, and Ark 3) have been recording at the Teldex Scoring Stage in Berlin, Germany. Most of the instruments (single and multi) are playable patches plus very usable patterns not heard before at this level of completeness.

  • Very low drums, toms, snares, found percussion gongs, cymbals and, wooden percussion, and clicks & clacks.
  • Epic percussion ensembles and single instruments.
  • Taiko Ensembles and Taikos of all kinds and sizes.
  • Eight orchestral sections (High Strings, Low Strings, String Quintet, Trumpet Ens, Horn Ens, Low Brass Ens, Low Woodwinds Ens, High Woodwinds Ens).
  • Later when more information has been released it has become obvious that this library is a huge library with great Brass, Strings, Woods and multis and of course also Percussions. When I first saw the early information of a new Metropolis Ark 3 I got the impressions that METROPOLIS ARK 3 will be another percussion library.

When Orchestra Tools started the product Metropolis Ark line with Ark 1 (great full sound), followed by Ark 2 (dark, sonorous sounding low magnetic epicness) it was a big blow to the composer community, and I assume started on of a most successful product line for Orchestra Tools. Very nice in combination, but if it were between 1 vs the other than anyone wrestling between the two should have a look at the instrument list linked below.METROPOLIS ARK 3 Review – The Beating Orchestra by Orchestral Tools They're two very different libraries, and there are certain things you won't pull of with Ark 4 that you can with ark 1 and vice versa. So it really isn't as simple as one being middle ground. Other than that you get a brass ensemble patch:

The only brass in Ark 4remotely resembling a discrete section is the trumpet patch (which are also pre-orchestrated): Whereas you get two horn sections in Ark 1:Īnd of course this is only one example. So for example you don't get a horn section in Ark 4, you get a pre-orchestrated patch: So I personally wouldn't consider it a middle ground so much as a smaller sized library of pre-orchestrated combinations and some ensemble patches. One thing to realize about Ark 4 is the instrumentation is totally different, and much of it is pre-orchestrated patches. The choir in Ark 4 blends well with Ark 1 choir and together they work really well.

With extra ensemble patches and combi-instrument patches and it's important to mention the power legato patches (the legato patches in Ark 1 are too slow and too heavy for fast playing, the power legato patches in Ark 4 can handle this better). I would view Ark 4 as a completion kit tot the Ark series, to be blended with the other Ark series.

I'm not a fan of the trumpet patches though. The 9 horn and 3 bass trombones patches are among my favorites. They also added stuff like metal guitars and drums, but these aren't the best (very clunky actually) compared to other genre-specific vi-devs. For woodwinds there's only bassoons and contra-bassoons (eached played by 4, which you don't usually find in a normal orchestra).

They have a very distinct character that sometimes doesn't work. The choir legato patches are very dramatic, but maybe still a bit too romantic epic (refering to the time period). Also I find the choir staccato patches lack rhythmic consistency. The percussion is maybe a bit one-sided (epic hits tend to get boring after a while).

The brass and strings section are superb for their purpose. Ark 1 has an all-round grandeur and baked in epicness you would expect from it.
